1. How can I determine my level of Spanish proficiency?
To determine your level of Spanish language proficiency, you will start your stay in our Colegio by taking a placement test, which consists of 100 questions. Every course that Colegio Unamuno offers has 8 different levels, starting with absolute beginners and ending with a superior level.
2. How long will it take for me to achieve fluency in Spanish?
If you take the general Spanish course, it will take 3 months (starting from a beginners or basic level) before you can have a fluent conversation in Spanish.
3. Is it possible to receive e-mails, phone calls, mail or faxes in the school and in my host family´s home?
You can easily receive e-mails, phone calls, mail or faxes at the school. Generally (excluding emergencies) you may receive phone calls at your host family´s home before 22.00 (10 pm) at night. When calling, be sure to take the Spanish time zone into account.
4. Can I use my credit card at the Colegio? In Spain?
Yes, you can use your credit card at the Colegio to pay for all fees (be sure you have the credit card number and expiration date). In Spain, credit cards can be used in shops, restaurants, and many other locations. However, credit cards are generally not accepted in taxis, buses, or bars.
5. Can I withdraw money with my bank card in Spain?
Yes, you can withdraw money from ATM’s. Before coming to Spain, ask your bank about daily and weekly withdrawal limits (usually about 300 and 1,200 euros, respectively).
6. Does my stay with a host family include laundry service?
No. However, laundry service (with weekly washing) can be purchased for 36 euros. This does not include ironing.
7. What is the general distance between the family homestays and the Colegio Unamuno?
All family-homestays the Colegio Unamuno works with are located no farther than a 20 minute walk from our campus.
